Launched in 2013 by friends Leigh Ord and Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly, Vintage with Love is a giant weekend pop up shop, consisting of gently worn fashion collected from the well-heeled ladies of Johannesburg and sold to stylish shoppers who love nothing more than hunting for fashion treasure.

This year’s sale consisted of almost 6000 garments and shoes, all merchandised into an elegant boutique in the dramatic triple volume space at the forum I the campus in Bryanston. The clothing ranged from high street and boutique bargains to designer label finds at a fraction of their original price.

This year, the two day Vintage with Love sale raised R860 000 and all the funds will be donated to literacy charities including The Click Foundation and Columba Leadership Academy. Last year, Vintage with Love raised just over R700 000.

Leigh Ord described the simple concept behind Vintage with Love: “The idea was to appeal to all the stylish ladies in Gauteng to donate those clothes at the back of their cupboards that they never wore but that were still in excellent condition – and to turn them into funds so desperately needed by literacy charities around Gauteng.”

“It’s a type of fashion recycling – turning something that is no longer worn, into money that is so desperately needed,” she said.

“We have been extremely fortunate to find a partner in the forum company – who, with their exquisite venue at the campus and talented team have enabled us to create the beautiful and sophisticated event we always had in mind.”

The forum company managing director, Glynis Hyslop said: “We are immensely proud to be associated with an event like Vintage with Love. To turn unwanted but gently worn clothes into such a significant amount of money for charity is quite an achievement.”

The forum company, a leader in the catering, events and conference business, will soon be hosting the next chapter of Vintage with Love – this time in Cape Town in their new venue in Constantia, Embassy Hill.
